Diffusion in Hierarchical Pore Systems

چکیده
1. Introduction With the advent of ordered mesoporous materials with hierarchically organized pore structures, many fundamental questions concerning the behaviour of confined fluids can now be addressed experimentally. Since they are promising materials for practical applications in catalysis, separation and adsorption, knowlegde of diffusion properties of such structures is of quintessential importance for their rational use. In this work, transport properties of fluids confined to a silica material with an ordered, bimodal pore structure are studied by means of pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG NMR).

NMR Studies on Silica Monoliths - Diffusion in a Hierarchical Pore Structure
1. Introduction For many applications in chromatography and separation, porous materials with a structure-in-structure fashion are desirable. For such applications, silica monoliths were synthesized which have a trimodal, hierarchical pore structure [1]. It consists of three different interconnected pore domains with pore diameters (measured by Hg-porosimetry) in the range of a few microns (mac...
متن کاملStochastic reconstruction of carbon fiber paper gas diffusion layers of PEFCs: A comparative study
A 3D microstructure of the non-woven gas diffusion layers (GDLs) of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) is reconstructed using a stochastic method. For a commercial GDL, due to the planar orientation of the fibers in the GDL, 2D SEM image of the GDL surface is used to estimate the orientation of the carbon fibers in the domain. Two more microstructures with different fiber orientations are g...
متن کاملCorrelating phase state and transport in hierarchical mesoporous materials
The pulsed field gradient technique of NMR (PFG NMR) is applied to explore molecular diffusion in different specimens of zeolite NaCaA, notably in samples containing hierarchical pore systems, as well in a silica material with an ordered, bimodal mesopore structure. In the hierarchical zeolithes the diffusivities in the two pore spaces are measured separately from each other by choosing ethane ...
متن کاملEFFECT OF Si ANTIOXIDANT ON THE RATE OF OXIDATION OF CARBON IN MgO- C REFRACTORY
Progressive conversion/shrinking core (PC-SC) models of constant-size cylinders were exploited to interpret the decarburization reactions of MgO-C-Si bricks heated up under blown air. Chemical adsorption/solid (or pore) diffusion mechanisms governed the reaction rate. With 5% silicon, chemical adsorption vanished at 1000 and 1100°C. The oxidation rate lowered then with temperature. This was due...
متن کاملHierarchical and Well-ordered Porous Copper for Liquid Transport Properties Control
(150-250 words) Liquid delivery through interconnected pore network is essential for various interfacial transport applications ranging from energy storage to evaporative cooling. The liquid transport performance in porous media can be significantly improved through the use of hierarchical morphology that leverages transport phenomena at different length scales. Traditional surface engineering ...
